This year and under the direction of; Sustainable Investments • Sustainable Finance • Governance, Compliance and Risk MGT, The conference tackles Global Business related issues.

These panels aim at facilitating unconventional finance and investments tools and mechanisms and recommendations from Legal experts and Business professionals in the field.

Panel 1;

Sustainable Investments & Egypt Vision 2030

Background,

Sustainable investments defined as, an investment approach that considers environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in portfolio selection and management, is gaining considerable grounds and has shifted from being considered as on the peripherals to being mainstream. According to the global investment alliance 2018 review; globally, sustainable investments in the five major markets stood at $30.7 trillion at the start of 2018, with a 34 percent increase in two years. In all the regions except Europe, sustainable investing’s market share has also grown.

Responsible investment now commands a sizable share of professionally managed assets in each region, ranging from 18 percent in Japan to 63 percent in Australia and New Zealand. Clearly, sustainable investing constitutes a major force across global financial markets.

Panel 1 major discussion theme

To what extent can sustainable investment play a major role sustainable development in Egypt?

To address this question, the following sub themes will be tackled

  • What is the current investment situation is Egypt in terms of legal and business opportunities and challenges?
  • What are the future investment needs, investments gap, to achieve the goals of Egypt vision 2030?
  • What are the current efforts done to attract sustainable investments and who are the main players?
  • What are the needed legal and business reforms needed to attract sustainable investments in Egypt?

The panel will start by a presentation on sustainable investments global situation, types, major trends as well as opportunities and challenges.

Panel 2;

The Future of Corporate Governance, Risk Management, and Regulatory Compliance

Background,

Due to the increase of complexity in business environments and the new unsystematic risks evolved in the last 5 years, many of the experts and professionals start asking what will be the new generation of risk management to face these changes and to what extent entities will be able to secure an adequate “Risk Taxomoney” that fits its business profile and business industry.

This issue becomes a major question as well for many of the shareholders across MENA region, considering the capabilities of the entities, the required skills and competencies and for sure the level of investment required to reach to a robust governance framework which serves the entities interest and sustain their business.

Panel 2 major discussion question

What are the latest emerging trends in GRC, Governance, Risk and Compliance and how digitalization is a game-changer in this aspect?

To address this question, the following sub themes will be tackled

  • What are the emerging trends in governance implementation, ie governance KPIs , transparency measures and business ethics ?
  • What is RegTech and how this is changing the compliance behavior?
  • What is Risk Taxomoney and how this can be achieved in the Egyptian market?
  • What are the new trends in NFR (Non-financial risk) and what are the new risks that entities should manage?
  • The panel will start by a presentation of the GRC framework and the new emerging trends considering two subjects the Risk Taxomoney and the GRC digitalization.

Panel 3;

Sustainable Finance & Egypt Vision 2030

Background,

The financial system affects directly our socio-economic development, thus it plays a fundamental role in achieving sustainable and inclusive growth. The new concept of Sustainable Finance is ultimately, the integration of ESG criteria into financial instruments, investments and services to foster sustainable development and financial inclusion in the society.

In this context, several steps have been taken to develop innovative financial instruments in order to improve the access to finance assets and projects that provide a positive environmental and/or social impact.

One of these steps is the evolution of the global bond market and its new segments, including the environmental and social dimensions in its framework.

First of all, we have the development of Green Bonds, since 2007. The Green Bond market is well established and growing nowadays, including the recent Green Bond Principles by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and regional standards such as the EU Green Bond Standards and the ASEA standards.

In addition, ten years ago, the first Social Impact Bonds (SIBs) were issued and since then, we see a growing number of issuers and investors from different countries, sovereigns and sectors that are issuing SIBs for financing social programs, as a transparent and effective way to contribute to social welfare.

There are other emerging types of bonds as well, such as the Sustainability Bonds, which focus on financing projects that address both environmental and social challenges. Moreover, there are already issued Development Impact Bonds (DIBs) for developing countries. Other types of bonds under development are: the Transition bonds, SDGs-linked or KPI-linked bonds.

“2020 is a decade of development and growth for Egypt”.

So now, more than ever, the Egyptian market needs multiple actors and assets to achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030 and actively support our people and our prosperity in a responsible and inclusive way”.

Panel 3 major discussion question
